John Danby's name is synonymous with the nationally renowned
Terrier hockey teams of the early seventies.
He was the team's high goal scorer in each of his three varsity
campaigns, and finished his career in 1972 with 79 goals and
81 assists.
In 1971, John earned All-New England and All-East honors
as Boston University won its first-ever NCAA title. His 28
goals and 36 assists were second best on the squad. Team captain
his senior year, he tied for the scoring lead with 26 goals
and 24 assists to help the Terriers repeat as national champions.
He was an All-American and duplicated his All-New England
and All-East awards, as well as earning MVP honors in the
Beanpot, ECAC Tournament, and NCAA Tournament. The George
V. Brown Trophy as Terriers' MVP went his way as well.
Drafted by the Chicago Black Hawks and the New England Whalers,
John enjoyed a four-year professional career before returning
to Boston University in 1979 for a two-year stint as assistant
coach.
