Mike Delgado enters his 11th season as an assistant track and field coach at Boston University in 2018-19. Delgado serves as BU's vertical jumps, multis and throws coach.
During the 2017-18 indoor season, Delgado coached senior Jason Biesma, who broke the Boston University school record in the heptathlon competing at UConn Multi Event Challenge with a total of 4,902 points. Biesma broke the old school record of 4,858 points which was set by Rich Haigh back in 2010.
Delgado came to BU from Stonehill College, where he spent two seasons in the same position. In his first season with the Terriers, he was part of Robyne Johnson's staff that earned Women's Coaching Staff of the Year honors at the America East Indoor Championship. He repeated that feat at the 2012 America East Indoor Championships.
Delgado was recognized by BU in 2012 as the inaugural winner of the Terrier Staff Award, which is given out to a Terrier staff member who goes above and beyond his or her duties. It was a banner year for Delgado in 2012, as he coached Allison Barwise to a pair of All-America selections in the high jump. Barwise also qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
During Delgado's tenure in Easton, the Skyhawks produced their first All-American in a non-distance event with a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter dash at the 2007 NCAA Division II Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship.
A 2005 graduate of the University of Connecticut with a bachelor of science degree in resource economics, Delgado was a captain of the Huskies' men's track and field team as a senior and captured New England championships in the 55-meter hurdles and the heptathlon, setting a meet record in the latter. He also competed in the NCAA regionals and was an All-Big East performer in the 110-meter high hurdles in each of his four years.
A native of Bridgewater, Delgado currently resides in Brockton.
