Kerstin Matthews, the former head coach of the BU women's ice hockey club team, played college hockey at Providence College (1996-2000) before serving as the assistant coach of the Westford (Mass.) Academy girls' varsity team for three years (2000-03).

In 2003, the Westford, Mass., native took over the reigns of the BU women's club team and helped expand the staff while coaching the Terriers in games versus American Collegiate Hockey Association teams, in addition to NCAA Division I and III teams and events such as the Beanpot Tournament.

The co-owner and on-ice coordinator of Hockey Advantage, a girls' ice hockey school that serves over 200 female players from around Massachusetts, Matthews spent four seasons as a forward at PC prior to becoming a coach. Playing in 123 career games for the Friars, including every game for her final three collegiate years, she captained the team her senior year while recording three goals and 10 assists for 13 points.
