A two-time all-state selection at Chelmsford H.S., Alison Caito was offered the program's first full athletic scholarship in 1984 by field hockey head coach Sally Starr.

During Caito's sophomore season, the team posted a 17-4-2 record, which included an 11-game win streak that ranked as a school record. The Terriers earned the program's first invitation to the NCAA tournament, where Alison scored the game-winning goal in overtime in the second round to lift the Terriers to their first appearance in the Final Four.

While the team did not make it to the championship round, it did end the season with a final national ranking of fourth. For her play during the season, she was named to the All-America Second Team and the All-Northeast Region First Team.

With Caito as a co-captain in 1987, the team captured the ECAC title and finished with a final national ranking of 13th. Alison was honored by being named team MVP in addition to earning second-team all-region honors.

"Alison was the prototypical Terrier," Starr said of Caito, who finished her career with 16 goals and 12 assists for 44 points. "She had great speed and was quick, aggressive and relentless on the field. Every time she touched the ball she made things happen."
