A highly dedicated and versatile individual, Edith Coady Sheehan starred in five sports during her playing days at Sargent College and remained extensively involved in the realm of amateur athletics for the ensuing 25 years after graduation.

She entered Sargent having been voted the "Outstanding Girl Athlete" of her high school graduating class, and quickly proceeded to live up to her billing, excelling in basketball, field hockey, lacrosse, softball, and volleyball on the interclass level. When the collegiate seasons ended, she sought other avenues to pursue her athletic interests, and played with the Boston Lacrosse and Field Hockey associations. In 1944, four years after graduating from Boston University, she was selected to play for the Northeast Field Hockey Team, comprised of regional all-stars.

At the same time, Sheehan continued to further her softball career as a member of the Boston Olympets, a local team directed by Walter Brown of the Boston Garden organization, which competed against other clubs throughout New England.

When her playing days came to an end, Sheehan remained active, serving as an official and later as an administrator. She officiated field hockey, basketball, and softball competitions, receiving high marks from the national ratings, and was an elected member of the Boston Board of Officials. In addition, she was selected to return to Sargent Camp in Peterborough, New Hampshire to serve on the faculty for lacrosse and softball.
