Despite having his playing career cut in half by World War II, Larry Folloni was a star member of the Terrier basketball teams during the winters of 1946 and 1947, and spent the spring months leading the Terrier nine to triumph on the baseball diamond.
After serving in the military during the war years, Folloni arrived on campus in the fall of 1945, and immediately established himself on the basketball court. A two-year starting guard, Folloni helped the 1945-46 contingent record an overall mark of 12-2 (.857). The club's only losses were to a Harvard team that would go on to participate in the NCAA Tournament.
However, it was on the baseball field that Folloni really made his mark, earning All-New England honors during the 1946 and 1947 seasons. A two-year starter, he saw time at second and third, and possessed the power to hit fourth in the lineup, batting over .400 in each of his two seasons.
During the 1946 campaign, he reached base safely in 17 consecutive at bats (12 hits, 3 walks and 2 errors). He also enjoyed a pair of stellar outings against Harvard during the spring of 1946, hitting a game-winning grand slam in one contest, while recording 11 assists and scoring the winning run in a 2-1 triumph.
