Fourth-Seeded Terriers Travel to Top Seed American for PL Semifinal

Making its 11th Patriot League tournament appearance in 13 seasons, the fourth-seeded Boston University field hockey team will visit the nation's capital to take on top-seeded American in the semifinal round of the Patriot League Championship on Thursday (Nov. 8).
Second-seeded Lafayette will face third-seeded Bucknell in the second semifinal at 2 p.m. The two winners will meet for the title on Saturday (Nov. 8) at 1 p.m.

TOURNAMENT NOTES
- Making its 11th Patriot League tournament appearance in 13 seasons as a member, fourth-seeded Boston University will visit the nation's capital to take on top-seeded American in the semifinal round of the Patriot League Championship.
- Second-seeded Lafayette will face third-seeded Bucknell in the second semifinal at 2 p.m. The two winners will meet for the title on Saturday at 1 p.m.
- This is just the third time since 2014 that the Terriers are in the Patriot League tournament and are not the No. 1 seed.
- In the past 10 seasons, BU has claimed the top seed six times, missed the tournament twice was the No. 3 seed in 2023 and the No. 4 seed last year.
- The Terriers are 12-6 all-time in the Patriot League tournament.
- BU is 8-2 all-time in the Patriot League semifinal round with the losses coming in each of the past two seasons.
- The Terriers are 4-4 in the championship game.
- This will be the seventh postseason meeting between the Terriers and Eagles and teams are an even 3-3.
- The Terriers had three All-Patriot League honorees as seniors Caroline O'Brien and Martu Coulo were named to the first team while freshman Delfi Coulo received second-team recognition.
- Martu Coulo became just the fourth Terrier to earn All-PL honors four times, joining Sofi
- Laurito '16, Hester van der Laan '17 and Payton Anderson '25.
- O'Brien earned the first All-PL honor of her career.
- BU is now 6-10 on the year and finished up the regular season on Saturday with a 3-2 road win at Colgate.
- Entering the posteason, senior Caroline O'Brien leads all Patriot League players in points with 31 and ranks tied for second in goals (12) and fifth in assists (7).
- Junior Nicole Lauro and freshman Molly Driscoll have each scored five goals this season and Driscoll has added three assists.
- Molly's older sister, Maggie, is fourth on the team in points with eight on two goals and four assists.
- Junior Sophie Ortyl has started the past 14 games in goal and currently sports a .636 save percentage and a 2.84 goals-against average.
- American completed its third straight undefeated Patriot League campaign with a 3-1 home victory over Holy Cross on Saturday.
- The Eagles have won 11 of their past 12 games with the only setback being a 1-0 loss to VCU in double overtime on Oct. 12.
- Steve Jennings was named Patriot League Coach of the Year on Tuesday for the 13th time and three Eagles received major Patriot League awards.
- Junior Jordan Reicher was named Offensive Player of the Year, graduate student Agustina Roffo was tabbed the Midfielder of the Year and freshman Lotti Sume received Rookie of the Year honors.
- Reicher and Roffo joined junior Emilia Winkler on the All-PL First Team while Sume and junior Sophie Willemse earned second-team accolades.
- Reicher has a team-best 27 points on 13 goals and an assist while Roffo (8g, 2a) and Willemse (5g, 6a) have added 18 and 16 points, respectively.
- Underwood, who repeated as the PL Scholar-Athlete of the Year, is in her fifth year as the Eagles' primary goalkeeper and sports a .794 save percentage to go along with a 1.13 goals-against average.
- BU is 13-9 in 22 all-time meetings with the Eagles.
- American has won the past four meetings - all by shutout - including a 2-0 contest in Boston on Sept. 19 in the Patriot League opener.
- The schools first met during the 1997 season.
