Johnson Ties School Record as Terriers Roll to 7-2 Win at Bucknell in PL Opener
September 26, 2026 | Field Hockey
BU scored twice in the first six minutes and never looked back, keeping Bucknell off the board until the 49th minute.Â
Johnson scored the final goal of the opening half to send the visitors into the break with a 4-0 lead. The sophomore went on to score BU's final three goals, securing a hat trick in the 51st minute before tying the school record less than four minutes later.
Senior Nicole Lauro and sophomore Molly Driscoll each recorded a goal and an assist while senior Maggie Driscoll also notched a goal.
The Terriers improve to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in Patriot League play while Bucknell falls to 4-4 with an 0-2 conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU dominated play in the early stages, quickly generating a shot on goal just a minute in before scoring on its next shot three minutes later.
- Lauro received a long pass from senior Alex Purcell on the right side of the field and got into the circle before drilling a shot to the far corner for her second goal of the season at 4:27.
- Under a minute later, Lauro executed a give-and-go with graduate student Caroline O'Brien before cutting through the circle and slipping the ball to Molly Driscoll, who redirected it past Bucknell netminder Sarah Althouse at the goalmouth for a 2-0 lead.
- In the 17th minute, BU directed a shot on goal that went off a defender's body, resulting in a penalty stroke that Maggie Driscoll successfully converted for her first goal of the year and a 3-0 advantage.
- BU pushed its cushion to four goals soon after as Althouse made two saves before Johnson pounced on a rebound at the 18:26 mark.
- Neither team scored in the third quarter and the visitors took a 4-0 lead into the final quarter.
- Johnson scored three times in the fourth to turn her performance into a career day.
- Molly Driscoll found Johnson with a no-look pass to the left post for a wide-open chance that she put in at 46:23 to make it 5-0.
- Bucknell ended the shutout bid when Julia Corropolese scored on back-to-back corners 43 seconds apart in the 49th minute.
- The Terriers earned another penalty stroke in the 51st minute and Johnson used it to complete her first collegiate hat trick and create a 6-2 score.
- The record-tying tally came with 5:30 to play as freshman Milena Franco Ferriero threaded a through ball up to Johnson for a breakaway and the sophomore drew the Bucknell goalkeeper out before dribbling around her and depositing her fourth goal.
