Women's Crew Swept By Brown
April 20, 2001 | Women's Rowing
The Terrier women's crew took on the top women's crew program in the East on Saturday (April 20th) as it traveled to Brown, and the Bruins showed why they are ranked as high as they are as they swept to victories in the varsity, second varsity, first novice, second novice, and varsity four races.
In the varsity race, Brown, which is the unanimous number-one ranked team in the East and number two in the nation, rowed to a near 12-second win. Rowing with a slight tailwind and currents that were going against the crews, Brown was timed in 6:08.59. In the meantime, the Terriers, who are ranked number 10 in the East this week, covered the course in 6:20.25.
In the second varsity, again the East's top-seeded Brown boat defeated the 10th-ranked Terriers, 6:24.21 to 6:41.12.
In the first novice race, Brown, which is ranked number three in the East, was clocked in 6:42.93, while the Terriers rowed in 7:00.7. In the second novice race, the Bruins rowed in 6:56.04 to 7:01.37.
The varsity four event was the closest of the day, as Brown won by less than a second. The Bruins' time was 7:13.8 to 7:14.56 for the Terriers.
This was the fourth time in five regattas this year that the Terriers have been on the road. Their only Charles River race was last Saturday (April 13th) when they lost to Yale but defeated Dartmouth.
With the loss to Brown, the Terriers' varsity heavyweight record slipped to 4-3. They will try to return to their winning ways next Saturday (April 27th) when they journey to the University of Virginia.
