Maiser Named Koho Player of the Week
November 4, 2002 | Men's Ice Hockey

Sophomore left wing Justin Maiser, whose three goals and two assists helped lead the Terrier hockey team to a weekend sweep of Northeastern and the University of New Hampshire, has been named the Hockey East Koho Player of the Week.
Maiser is the second Terrier this year to behonored for his accomplishments during the previous week. Freshman defenseman Jekabs Redlihs was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week after he was named the MVP of the Ice Breaker Tournament on October 11th and 12th.
Maiser began this past weekend with a person single-game high of two goals and two assists in the Terriers' 7-6 win over Northeastern University on Friday night (November 1st). His first goal of the night opened the scoring just 17 seconds into the game. His second goal, on the Terrier power play, closed out B.U.'s scoring at 13:40 of the third period. Northeastern cut the deficit to 7-6 at 16:24 of the period, but that was the end of the scoring, as Maiser's goal proved to be the game-winner.
The following night, the Terriers traveled to the University of New Hampshire where they took on the nation's top-ranked Wildcats. Again, Maiser provided the game-winning goal at 17:37 of the second period. The goal upped the Terriers' lead to 3-1. New Hampshire came back to cut the lead to 3-2 with a goal just 42 seconds into the third period. However, despite pulling the goalie in the final minute of the game, UNH could not score the equalizer.
As a freshman last year, Maiser was honored three times as the Hockey East Rookie of the Week. He was also the league's Rookie of the Month during February. February was an honored-filled month for Maiser, as he was also the Beanpot MVP and was featured as a "Face In The Crowd" in Sports Illustrated.
