November 15, 2003 | Men's Swimming & Diving
BOSTON, MA-Junior diver Victor Paguia (Lake Forest, IL) won both the one- and three-meter dives, while sophomore Michael Kelly (Shrewsbury, NJ) won the 50 and 100 freestyle but it was not enough as the Terrier men's swimming and diving team dropped a 167-127 decision to the University of Connecticut on Saturday, Nov. 15.
Paguia, who was the America East Diver of the Year last season, continued his undefeated ways this season en route to winning both diving events. He scored 285.67 points en route to winning the one-meter event and then scored 320.47 points in taking the three-meter dive.
Paguia led a 1-2-3 sweep in the three-meter dive as sophomore Brian Martinez (Chelmsford, MA) was second with 216.52 points and junior James Yon (Pittsfield, MA) was third with 197.77 points.
Kelly also had a big afternoon with wins in both the 50 (:22.04) and 100 (:48.59), while he also turned in a split of :21.50 in anchoring the winning 200 freestyle relay. He combined efforts with sophomore Michael McGrath (Pittsburgh, PA), junior David Brown (Fallbrook, CA), and freshman Griffin Moodie (Edina, MN) for the winning time of 1:29.11.
Moodie did an excellent job himself en route to winning the 100 fly in :55.27 and finishing second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.63.
Finally, junior Chris Collins (Phoenix, AZ) won the 200 individual medley in 2:02.83 after playing second in both the 100 and 200 backstroke in :56.97 and 2:03.73, respectively.
"I was very pleased with how the men swam," said Terrier head coach Reagh Wetmore. "Many of them turned in their best times of the season, but we swam against a Connecticut team that has both quality and quantity."
