Men Fall to Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Despite five first-place finishes, including a pair from both freshman Griffin Moodie (Edina, Minn.) and junior Victor Paguia (Lake Forest, Ill.), the Terrier men's swimming and diving team fell to cross-town rival Boston College, 184-115, in Chestnut Hill on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
B.U. opened the meet with a second-place finish in the first event of the evening, the 200-yard medley relay. Moodie, along with junior Chris Collins (Phoenix, Ariz.), and sophomores Michael Kelly (Schrewsbury, NJ) and Michael McGrath (Pittsburg, Pa.) combined for a time of 1:39.39. Moodie then stepped up with wins his next two events. His time of 1:01.87 in the 100-yard breaststroke gave him his first win, which he followed up with a time of 52.75 in the 100-yard butterfly for win number two.
Paguia once again had a pair of outstanding dives, as he scored 301.05 in the 1-meter and 307.88 in the 3-meter to win both events. Junior James Yon (Pittsfield, Mass.) took second in the 1-meter behind Paguia with 236.25 and finished third in the 3-meter with 206.03.
The other Terrier win came from freshman Michael Bear (Arlington, Va.), who finished the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:12.04. He went on to finish second in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:59.98.
In the 100-yard backstroke senior Jay Toutant (Madison, Wis.) and Collins finished second and third, with times of 55.86 and 56.58, respectively. Collins also had a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, with a time of 2:05.95.
In the 400-yard freestyle relay, junior David Brown (Fallbrook, Ca.), senior Ryo Takano (Ardsley, N.Y.), Moodie, and Kelly, finished with an overall time of 3:21.45 to earn second place. Kelly also had a pair of other second-place finishes, in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles, with times of 22.38 and 48.96, respectively.
The team will travel to Vermont on Saturday to take on the Catamounts in the Forbush Natatorium at 1 p.m.
