Terriers Drop Close One to URI
January 31, 2004 | Men's Swimming & Diving
Junior Victor Paguia (Lake Forest, IL) placed first in the one and three meter dives, and freshman Griffin Moodie (Edina, MN) continued his strong swimming, winning the 100 fly and 100 breast, but it was not enough as the Boston University men's swimming and diving team lost to Rhode Island, 157-142 on Saturday, January 31 in the final dual meet of the 2004 season.
Paguia scored a 322.27 in the three meter dive, and that, coupled with JT Mikulka (Suffern, NY) and James Yon's (Pittsfield, MA) second and third place finishes, respectively, gave the Terriers a 133-132 lead with two events remaining. John Proctor (1:59.92) held off junior Chris Collins (Phoenix, AZ) (2:00.37) in the 200 IM, while the 400 free relay team of Mike Kelly (Shrewsbury, NJ), Dave Brown (Fallbrook, CA), Moodie and Jay Toutant (Madison, WI) finished .66 off the pace as the Terriers came up just short at the end. The loss evens B.U.'s record at 4-4 on the year.
Moodie's time of 1:00.04 was good for first place in the 100 breast. He followed that up with a first place time of 52.30 in the 100 fly.
Kelly was also a two-event winner, placing first in the 50 free in a time of 21.70, and the 100 free in 47.73.
The Terriers will next travel to Orono, ME for the America East Championships, beginning on Friday, February 20. Trials begin at 11 a.m.
