Paguia, Moodie Lead Terriers to Second At Mowerson Meet

Ft. Lauderdale, FL.---Junior Victor Paguia (Lake Forest, IL) won both diving events and freshman Griffin Moodie (Edina, MN) placed first in the 50-meter breaststroke to help the Terrier men's swimming and diving team to a second-place in the Bob Mowerson Meet held at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex on Jan. 5.
In the first meet of the new year, Paguia finished with 313 points, as the diving competition included three dives each on the three-meter and one-meter boards. Sophomore Bryan Martinez (Chelmsford, MA) was third with 240.80 points, while freshman J.T. Mikulka (Suffern, NY) was five with 197.25 points, and freshman Craig Fritch (Delaware, OH) was sixth with 159.65 points.
In the meantime, Moodie took the 50-meter breaststroke race with a time of :31.50. Also placing for the Terriers in that race were senior Brent Bernkrant (Hollywood, FL.), who finished third in :34.61 and sophomore Ryan Falk (Sarasota, FL.) who was fourth with a time of :34.81.
Five Terrier swimmers scored points in the 50-meter freestyle, led by sophomore Michael Kelly (Shrewsbury, N.J.) who finished second in 25:34. The other swimmers, finishing 6-7-8-9, were sophomore Michael McGrath (Pittsburgh, PA.), junior David Brown (Fallbrook, CA.), and seniors Jay Toutant (Madison, WI.) and Ryo Takano (Ardsley, N.Y.) with times of :26.12, :26.78, :26.91, and :27.39 respectively.
In the 400-meter freestyle, freshman Michael Bear (Arlington, VA.) finished second in a time of 4:31.30 behind Michael Belting of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Junior Chris Collins (Phoenix, AZ.) also placed second in the 50-meter backstroke, with a time of :31.65, while sophomore Sean Galvin (Edina, MN) placed seventh with his time of :34:75.
Also placing for B.U. was senior Justin Reid (Cap Elizabeth, ME.) who completed the 50-meter butterfly in :30.67, which was good for sixth place.
As a team, the Terriers finished with 186 points, which placed them second in field of 13 teams. The only team ahead of them was the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee which garnered 232 points.
The B.U. men's swimming team will be in action next at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, at Boston College.
