Norris Dominates In Terriers Win Over Rival Huskies, 74-69

BOSTON - Senior forward Adrienne Norris (Delafield, WI) scored 21 points and grabbed 10 boards as Boston University picked up a 74-69 win over rival Northeastern at Matthews Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 19.
The victory snapped a two-game skid for the Terriers (7-7, 2-3), who moved back to .500 on the season. Maralene Zwarich paced the Huskies (7-7, 2-2) with game-highs of 25 points and 11 rebounds.
Norris was nearly perfect in the first half, hitting 7-of-9 from the field for 16 points while grabbing seven boards as the Terriers held a 35-34 lead at the break. Zwarich scored 14 of her 25 points to keep the Huskies within reach.
B.U. used an 11-4 run early in the second half to take a 51-44 advantage at 11:38. Northeastern closed the gap to 52-50 at 9:54 but another 11-4 Terrier rally gave B.U. a 63-54 lead at 5:59.
Despite being held without a field goal for the final 5:59 of the game, the Terriers were able to maintain their lead by getting to the free throw line. B.U. attempted 16 free throws over the last five minutes of the game, hitting 11. For the game, the Terriers set season-highs in both free throws made (24) and attempted (31).
Three Terriers scored in double figures, with Norris leading the way with 21 points. Junior guard Rachael Vanderwal (Stoney Creek, ONT) scored 15 points while freshman guard Cheri Raffo (Asbury, NJ) scored a season-high 14 points, hitting 8-of-8 from the free throw line.
Northeastern's Shaleyese Smallwood finished with 15 points while Francesca Vanin and Michelle Decerbo each had 12 points.
The Huskies held a 38-31 advantage on the boards.
In their first home game in two weeks, the Terriers host the Stony Brook Seawolves on Saturday, Jan. 22, at 1:00 p.m.
