November 28, 2005

BOSTON ??? Sophomore goaltender Karson Gillespie (Mankota, Sask.) was named the Hockey East Pure Hockey Defensive Co-Player of the Week for his outstanding play for the Boston University men???s ice hockey team last week, as announced by the league on Nov. 28. He shares this week???s honor with Travis Russell of Vermont.

The goalie, who made just his second collegiate start and his first appearance in net since playing the third period at Colorado College on Nov. 27, 2004, stopped all 31 shots he faced for both his first win and first shutout as the Terriers blanked reigning back-to-back national champion No. 13 Denver, 1-0, on Friday (Nov. 25).

Three other Terriers were also recognized for their efforts against three ranked opponents last week, as seniors John Laliberte (Saco, Maine) and Brad Zancanaro (Trenton, Mich.) each made their first appearance this season on the Honor Roll, and junior goalie John Curry (Shorewood, Minn.) made his third-consecutive Honor Roll after being named the CCM/RBK Hockey Player of the Week on Nov. 7.

Laliberte set up four of BU???s eight goals on the week, two of which tied the game in the closing minutes, while Zancanaro had three points in three games for the Terriers, including the equalizer to force overtime with No. 3 CC with 1:00 remaining in regulation. Meanwhile, Curry had 37 saves in a 2-2 tie at No. 14 Harvard, including 14 in the first five minutes of the game and five in overtime, then added 27 saves versus No. 3 CC.

The Terriers return to action on Friday (Dec. 2) at Boston College???s Conte Forum at 8:00 p.m., before returning home to Agganis Arena on Saturday (Dec. 3) for a second game against the cross-town rival Eagles.
