Curry Named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week

December 5, 2005

BOSTON ??? Rewarded for his 61-save performance in a home-and-home series with No. 6 Boston College last weekend, Boston University men???s ice hockey junior goaltender John Curry (Shorewood, Minn.) was today named the Hockey East Pure Hockey Defensive Co-Player of the Week. He shares this week???s honor with Tyler Sims of Providence.

Curry allowed just four goals on 61 shots for a .938 save percentage and 2.02 GAA in the weekend split with cross-town rival BC. This marks the fifth consecutive week that he has been honored by the league for his efforts, as he was named the CCM/RBK Hockey Player of the Week on Nov. 7, then made the Honor Roll each of the following three weeks in November.

Three other Terriers were also recognized for their efforts against BC last week, as seniors John Laliberte (Saco, Maine) and Brad Zancanaro (Trenton, Mich.) each made their second consecutive appearance on the Honor Roll, and junior Kenny Roche (South Boston, Mass.) made his way onto the Honor Roll for the first time this season.

Laliberte had a power-play goal, while assisting on both the game-winner and another power-play goal on Saturday. Fellow top-liner Zancanaro netted the game-winner in the same game and set up two man-advantage tallies. Finally, Roche scored two of BU???s six goals, one of which was unassisted, for the first time in his career.

The Terriers return to action at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday (Dec. 8) at No. 19 Providence.
