Denis Leary, the famous comedian and actor, will headline a gala event honoring Jack Parker (SMG???68, Hon.???97), the legendary Terrier men???s hockey coach, at Agganis Arena on Thursday, October 6.
That evening, the arena???s rink, which opened last winter, will formally be named the Jack Parker Rink. Parker, who enters his 33rd season as coach this year and also is BU???s executive director of athletics, notched his 700th win with the Terriers last December. Under Parker, the Terriers have won two NCAA championships, 18 Beanpot tournaments, and more than 20 other major tournaments. And with a record of 713-367-80, Parker has won more games at the same institution than any other college hockey coach.
The October 6 event, which takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. on the Arena???s main floor, will take the form of a classic celebrity ???roast.??? Denis Leary will make opening remarks; Parker then will be peppered with light-hearted put-downs by comedian Steve Sweeney, Harvard hockey coach and athletic director Bill Cleary, 1980 Olympic hockey gold medalist and former Terrier David Silk (CAS???80, GSM???93), and University of Massachusetts hockey coach Donald ???Toot??? Cahoon, who was an assistant coach under Parker during the 70s, 80, and 90s. Television sportscaster and Boston native Sean McDonough will serve as the master of ceremonies.
In addition to celebrating Parker???s career, the roast will raise scholarship support for Boston University???s deserving student-athletes, with all net proceeds benefiting the Terrier Pride Scholarship Fund.
