Hamden, Conn. - The Boston University men's tennis team traveled over the weekend to take part in the fifth-annual Quinnipiac Invitational. The Terriers played several close matches and won matches in each singles and doubles flight.
Other teams in the tournament included Fairfield, Sacred Heart, Bucknell, UConn, University of Rhode Island, and Quinnipiac University.
In singles play, sophomore Jeff Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill.) and junior Charles Weinstein (New Rochelle, N.Y.) advanced to the second round of Flight A and Flight B, respectively. The closest match for BU came when Flight A participant junior Giulio Gallarotti (Higganum, Conn.) fell to Bucknell's Ryan Sandburg in a third set-tiebreaker. In other matches, senior Hans Sapra (Alpharetta, Ga.), junior Tim Sichler (Los Lunas, N.M.), junior Miron Nissim (Milan, Italy), sophomore James Bernstein (Miami, Fla.) and senior Daniel Frid (Dallas, Texas) battled hard before losing to opponents.
In doubles action, the Flight A tandem of Gallarotti and Chudacoff won its first match against URI but lost in the second round to a pairing from UConn. Fellow Flight A participants Weinstein and senior Phil DeMeo (Bedford, Mass.) lost, 9-7, to the eventual finalists from Bucknell, but the Terrier duo bounced back to win its second match against Fairfield. Senior Carl Adams, Jr. (Roslindale, Mass.) and sophomore Armir Mehmeti also had a successful weekend as they easily won their second match, 8-4.
The BU men's tennis team will close its fall season on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at the Track and Tennis Center against the Coast Guard Academy.
