Amherst, Mass. - The Boston University men's soccer team fell short against UMass, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Rudd Field. The Terriers slip to 4-4-0, while the Minutemen improved to 4-4-0.
UMass got on the board first at 53:37 when Stuart Amick capitalized on a rebounded save to put the Minutemen up 1-0. BU kept up the attack throughout the second half, but Amick's goal proved to be the game winner.
The Terriers and the Minutemen played to a scoreless draw in the first half, with BU controlling the offensive pressure and out-shooting UMass 7-5. The Terriers' best chances of the first frame came just before the break. Junior Eric Gladney's (Barrington, R.I.) header at 43:13 was saved at point-blank range, and classmate Dan Schultz's (Cincinnati, Ohio) shot off a set piece at 44:07 was saved as well.
Sophomore keeper Hrafn Davidsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) made seven saves in net for the Terriers. UMass' Zack Simmons also tallied seven stops. The Minutemen held a 4-2 advantage on cornerkicks.
BU travels to Providence, R.I. to play Brown on Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
Notes: The Terriers had a two-game win streak snapped with today's loss ... three of BU's four losses have come by shutout ... the Terriers are 1-3 against Massachusetts schools ... all four losses have come after BU's opponent scored first ... UMass is volunteer assistant coach Dan Colwell's alma mater.
