
Swimming and Diving Defeats Binghamton on Saturday

BOSTON - The Boston University swimming and diving program had a successful afternoon on Saturday at Competition Pool as the women's squad defeated Binghamton, 187-56, and Vermont, 148-95, while the men picked up a victory against Binghamton, 132-111. The women won eight races - six individual - while the men claimed seven. Junior Arik Seiler had a two-win afternoon in the 100 and 200 free races.
The men's squad opened the meet with a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the 400-medley relay. On the last leg of the race, freshman Jackson Hill passed Binghamton to touch the wall first in 3:27.92. Seiler continued his strong season with a win in the 200 free, clocking in at 1:42.78, and then followed it up with a victory in the 100 free (47.45).
Sophomore Bryon Kallert kept the momentum going for the Terriers with a first-place finish in the 200 back (1:54.46). Sophomore Mark Nakanishi and junior Ben Kaiser went 2-3 in the 500 free with times of 4:50.00 and 4:52.11, respectively.
Senior Andre Watson was the victor on the one-meter diving board with a score of 315.10 and the three-meter (316.13).
On the women's side, BU claimed top honors in the 400-medley relay with a time of 3:56.60 - over three seconds ahead of its closest competitor. Next, BU recorded back-to-back second-place finishes as seniors Christina Ruggiero (1,000 free) and Eve Kinsella (200 free) picked up valuable points for the Terriers.
Sophomore Kirsten Tullis claimed BU's first individual win in the 50 free with a time of 24.42 and freshman Amanda Schmitz touched the wall first in the 200 fly in 2:09.32. Junior Brigette O'Shaughnessy continued the winning streak in the 500 free in 5:05.53.
In the 100 free, Kinsella (53.33) led a trio of Terriers that finished second, third and fourth, as she was followed by sophomore Maria McIntyre (53.63) and senior Emily Munday (53.83). The freshman class continued to shine with Kristen Connors' win in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.87). Sophomore Clara Van Allen placed second in the event with a time of 2:27.01.
In the diving events, senior Tess Waresmith won the three-meter board with a score of 285.75 and the one-meter (294.23).
Both the men and the women closed out the meet with a win in the 400 free relay, respectively.
BU will return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 1 with Syracuse at Competition Pool. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
