COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Sophomores Colin Wilson and Kevin Shattenkirk have been named to the 2009 U.S. National Junior Team, as announced by USA Hockey on Wednesday. The Terrier duo will participate at the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Junior Championship, in Ottawa, Ontario, Dec. 26, 2008-Jan. 5, 2009.
Wilson was named to the national squad for the second straight year, as the centerman scored seven goals, including a tournament-best six goals, for the 2008 U.S. squad that finished fourth at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship in Pardubice and Liberec, Czech Republic.
A former captain for the U.S. National Under-18 Team, Shattenkirk will be making his World Junior debut as one of the team's seven defenseman.
Through 13 games this season, Wilson leads the Terriers with 20 points on seven goals and 13 assists and ranks second in the country in points per game (1.54). Shattenkirk enters this weekend's series with Boston College on a three-game point streak and has tallied three goals and seven assists so far this season.
BU is one of five schools (Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Notre Dame) to have multiple players named to the team and Hockey East led all conferences with a total of five players selected.
