BOSTON - Senior guard Amarachi Umez-Eronini has earned America East Player of the Week status for the first time in her career, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Umez-Eronini led the Terriers (15-6, 9-0 AE) to a perfect 2-0 week, as the squad extended its unbeaten streak to 10 games and is now just one of 14 teams in the nation that is unbeaten in league play.
The Washington, D.C., native, an all-defensive team member last season, exploded for 15.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg, while adding nine steals and six assists in two contests. In BU's thrilling overtime victory at Vermont on Saturday, Umez-Eronini had a standout showing with 13 points, four assists and matched a career high with six steals. In the extra frame, she hit both of her free-throw attempts to help the Terriers top the Catamounts and remain undefeated in league play. At Albany just three days prior, she posted a game-high 17 points.
She shot .471 from the field and .824 from the foul line in the two wins, both of which came on the road. Umez-Eronini currently leads the America East in steals (2.57 spg), is fifth in field goal percentage (.486), and is 10th in assists (3.00 apg).
BU will return to Case Gym on Wednesday (Feb. 11) to host Stony Brook at 7 p.m.
