The Boston University field hockey team was recognized on Monday for its early-season efforts against ranked squads, as womensfieldhockey.com placed the Terriers 19th in its weekly national poll. BU topped then-No. 17 UMass with a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory on Friday.
Despite their 1-3 record, two of the Terriers' three losses have come to teams ranked in the top 10 of the preseason poll. In BU's 2-0 loss to top-ranked Maryland, BU outcornered the Terrapins, 8-6, and had just one less shot on goal. The Terriers most recently dropped a 3-1 decision to then-No. 9 Iowa, but doubled up the Hawkeyes in corners by a 4-2 margin.
BU will return to action on Saturday (Sept. 12) when they play host to cross-town rival and 14th-ranked Boston College. Game time for the home opener is set for 1 p.m.
