Rhett Excited for More Soccer this Week

With both ice hockey teams ranked in the top five and the basketball seasons tipping off on Friday, I realize that it can be easy to lose sight of the soccer teams. Fact is, they are still alive and representing BU in the postseason!
The men will host New Hampshire Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the America East semifinals. If they win and advance, they will host either UMBC or Stony Brook this weekend. The league has been difficult this year, so come out and support these guys.
Friday will be a busy day no question, so I'm trying to see if I can clone myself. We have both ice hockey teams playing on campus and the women's basketball team also opening Case Gym against Boston College. That said, if I can only choose one game to be victorious in that day, I'll go with the women's soccer team.
The women are ranked 17th in Soccer America's final regular season poll and will play at BC in the first round of the NCAA tournament with the game starting at 4 p.m. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate for what should be a classic. BU has shut out its last 13 opponents, a streak that is tied for the second-longest in NCAA history.
WCVB's Mike Dowling took notice of this impressive streak and stopped by earlier today to interview the team about Friday's game. Check out the video by clicking here.
Also, if you missed it on Oct. 29, here's an article from the Boston Herald.
Before I get some rest for tomorrow's men's soccer game, I have to give a shout out to Florian Mennigen, who graduated from BU in 2006. The former men's crew member raced this past weekend in New Zealand for Germany's eight boat at the World Championships. For the second consecutive year, he won a gold medal. Congrats!
Both Meindert Klem ('10) and Jozef Klaassen ('07) also raced in the final for the Netherlands but just missed out on a medal by finishing fourth.
Watch the whole race here.
On a final note, the m/w soccer teams and the m/w ice hockey teams are a combined 35-4-3 since Sept. 16. Impressive!
Until next time...
