BOSTON - Jen Strasburger, an assistant for the Boston University swimming and diving program for the last five years, has been promoted to associate head coach, head coach Bill Smyth announced Tuesday.
"Jen's countless hours of dedication to the team and outstanding coaching have earned her this promotion," Smyth said. "In addition to her normal responsibilities, she will now serve as our recruiting coordinator. I feel that I speak for the entire team when I say that we are very fortunate to have a coach of her caliber on our staff."
During Strasburger's tenure with the Terriers, she has helped guide the women's program to an impressive 42-19 dual-meet record (.689) over five seasons - including this year's perfect 12-0 record. Last year the Terriers earned their first America East championship in 14 years with Smyth's and Strasburger's recruits making major contributions to earn the conference crown.
The men's side has been just as successful, acquiring a 32-15 dual-meet record (.681) in five campaigns, which also featured an undefeated season in 2008-09.
Since Smyth and Strasburger came to BU at the start of the 2005-06 season, their athletes have won 25 individual conference crowns - including 11 in 2009 - and 11 relay titles at the America East Championship.
As a staff, Smyth, Strasburger and diving coach Agnes Gerlach-Miller are the two-time defending AE Coaching Staff of the Year for the men. They swept the coaches' awards in 2008, claiming it on the women's side that year as well.
