BOSTON -
An injury-plagued Boston University women's tennis team fell to Boston College, 6-1, at Harvard University's Beren Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon. With only five of nine Terriers available to play in singles action, BU dropped to 8-11, while the Eagles improved to 6-13.
Snapping a two-match losing streak to the Terriers, BC swept through doubles action but in three hard-fought matches before winning four of the five singles contests actually played. BU had to forfeit the No. 6 singles match due to having an incomplete lineup.
In doubles, Katharine Attwell and Brittany Delaney defeated BU's No. 2 team of Francine Whu and Monika Mical, 8-5, while Ina Kauppila and Katarina Gajic earned an 8-6 victory over Petra Santini and Inayat Khosla at No. 3. The Eagles earned the sweep at No. 1 when Alex Kelleher and Olga Khmylev slipped past Vivien Laszloffy and Stefanie Nunic, 8-7(4).
Trailing 1-0, the Terriers went into singles action with both No. 1 Nunic and No. 3 Santini dropping out due to injury. Already having both Elizabeth Corrao and Vanessa Steiner out, BU immediately fell behind two points and had to reshuffle the lineup.
Linero rallied from a set down for her first highest-slotted victory of the season at No. 4 with a 6-7(9), 6-4, 10-7 win over Olga Khmylev.
The Terriers will now try to get healthy before hosting Hartford on Friday, April 23, in the final home match for Whu and Corrao.
