The Boston University women's basketball team will hit the hardwood on Saturday afternoon when the Terriers welcome the Rhode Island Rams to Case Gym. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m., on NESN.
BU (2-2, 0-0 America East) has split its first four games, winning twice at home. The last victory came on Tuesday night when the Terriers defeated Northeastern, 75-65. BU hit 15 three-pointers during the contest, with junior guard Chantell Alford leading the way for the Terriers with 21 points and 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. Senior guard Alex Young was also hot from the field, as she poured in 20 points.
The Terriers have three players averaging at least 10.0 points per game. Young leads the team with 18.8 ppg. Alford is next with 11.5 ppg, while junior guard Mo Moran is right behind Alford with 11.3 ppg. Sophomore forward Rashidat Agboola (9.0 rpg) and senior forward Caroline Stewart (7.8 rpg) have both been terrific down low this season. Agboola is third in the AE in defensive boards (5.8 rpg) while Stewart is second in the conference on the offensive glass (4.3 rpg).
Rhode Island (1-4, 0-0 Atlantic-10) edged BU, 58-56, last season in Kingston, R.I. The Rams lost two starters from last year's squad and the team has struggled out of the gate this season, with the Rams' lone win coming against Providence on Nov. 16. A pair of juniors leads Rhode Island in scoring, as Ashley Rivera (11.2 ppg) and Ajanae Boone (10.0 ppg) have provided a bulk of the Rams' offense this season. Both players also shoot well from beyond the arc, as they each hit at a 45.5 percent clip.
After Saturday's matinee, BU will begin a three-game road trip by visiting Harvard on Wednesday night. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
