I am one tired dog after a whirlwind of activity surrounding BU Athletics the past couple of weeks. It's been a thrilling ride though with the men's basketball team battling No. 1 seed Kansas on national TV and the women's ice hockey team becoming the first-ever Hockey East squad to reach the national championship game.
Both teams had incredible senior leadership, and I'll be sad to see the seniors leave us. Click here to relive John Holland's stirring performance at the America East title game on March 12. Click here to watch the seniors on the hockey team talk about representing BU against Wisconsin with the NCAA title on the line.
We had plenty of strong individual performances at the NCAAs as well for wrestling, track & field and women's diving.
CAA wrestling champion John Hall along with Hunter Meys and Fred Santaite combined for five victories, marking BU's best performance since 1997. Sophomore diver Melinda Matyas recorded the program's highest finish ever in the platform with a 17th-place result after taking 23rd the previous season.
Last week, junior Katie Matthews earned First Team All-America honors for finishing sixth-place in the 5,000-meter, while freshman Rich Peters garnered Second Team status for a 11th-place result in the mile run.
The postseason isn't over yet though! Senior Matt Rickett will compete this weekend in the 100-meter butterfly.
Still, I'm excited that Spring is upon us. The BU softball team will host its first game of the season on Tuesday at 4 p.m. The women have captured the last two America East titles and are led by 2010 First Team All-American April Setterlund.
Women's rowing is kicking off the crew schedule on the Charles River with Syracuse this Saturday morning. Defending AE champion lacrosse is reaching the halfway mark of its schedule with Binghamton on Saturday, and the tennis teams are hosting matches this week as well.
The fun never ends!
Until next time...
