BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team is excited to announce that four student-athletes will join the program for the upcoming 2011 season. Head coach Sally Starr and her staff are set to welcome three freshmen and a transfer to the squad, which returns eight starters from a team that was ranked 20th in last year's final national poll.
Tabi Hatch (F/M • 5-6 • Green Lane, Pa. • Upper Perkiomen • Towson)
Transferring to BU after two seasons at Towson ... Totaled 22 points (8g, 6a) over her two years with the Tigers ... Ranked second on the team in points (18) and goals (7) as a sophomore in 2010 ... Tied for the team lead in assists (4) ... SGI/NFHCA National Academic Squad honoree ... Named CAA Player of the Week on Oct. 18 ... Three-time Pennsylvania all-state selection at Upper Perkiomen High School ... Her older sister, Loran, was a 2010 first-team All-American at Old Dominion.
Coach Starr: "Tabi is an experienced striker who will compete to play right from the start. Goal-scoring was a weakness of last year's team and her speed and skill will add strength and depth to that area of our game."
Kiah Murphy (F/M • 5-6 • Westport, Mass. • Tilton School (N.H.))
Field hockey and softball standout at Tilton School ... Team MVP as a sophomore ... All-Star at the 2010 Elite Field Hockey Camp ... Named a Northeast Region alternate for U19 Futures ... Two-year softball captain at Tilton and was also a member of the varsity alpine skiing team ... Her cousin, Amber Morse, was a field hockey captain at Dartmouth.
Coach Starr: "Kiah is an aggressive, athletic striker who has the potential to develop into a very good collegiate player."
Lyndsie Rabenius (F/M • 5-3 • Hampton, N.H. • Winnacunnet)
Two-time New Hampshire all-state honoree at Winnacunnet High School ... Has played club hockey for the New England Hockeymates for the past two years ... Went to the 2008 National Hockey Festival as a member of Seacoast United ... Named to the 2010 Twin State squad ... Her grandfather, George Ford, played basketball and baseball at New Hampshire and is a member of the school's Hall of Fame.
Coach Starr: "Lyndsie can play in both the midfield and on the striker line. She has very good speed and is a tremendous competitor with excellent potential. She has both the ability to score goals and also has good vision as an effective playmaker."
Chrissy Toomey (F/M • 5-1 • Wenham, Mass. • The Governor's Academy)
Joins her older sister, Caitlin, on the Terrier squad ... Four-year starter and senior captain at The Governor's Academy ... Helped her team claim the New England championship as a junior ... Four-year Futures participant ... Selected for the 2010 National Futures and National Indoor Championships ... Member of the Cape Ann Coalition club team ... Also a member of the lacrosse, ice hockey and track & field teams at Governor's.
Coach Starr: "Chrissy is an excellent athlete with the potential to develop into a very good hockey player. She can play multiple positions and has worked hard over the winter to recover from knee surgery."
