The Boston University women's basketball team and head coach Kelly Greenberg have announced that seniors Kasie Carbacio, Caroline Stewart and Alex Young will serve as team captains for the upcoming 2011-12 season.
"Caroline, Kasie and Alex are strong, positive leaders for this team," Greenberg said. "This senior class is very special and I am excited to work closely with each of them in leading our team to a memorable season."
Carbacio (Bridgeport, W.Va.) has worked her way back from a season-ending injury her freshman year and earned the captain's armband after displaying a tireless work ethic and leadership skills that drew respect from teammates and coaching staff.
Stewart (Topsfield, Mass.) has been a presence on the boards since her freshman year and last season hauled in 239 rebounds to rank seventh all-time at BU for a single season. She currently averages 5.8 rpg and has swatted 34 shots in her career, including a career-high 20 in 2010-11.
Over the last two years, Young (Hickory, N.C.) has emerged as the Terriers' go-to perimeter shooter. With the increased role, she has been rewriting the BU record book, she is currently third all-time with 160 treys. In last season's America East semifinals, Young dropped a career-high 37 points on Binghamton in the third-best single-game performances in program history.
The Terriers finished the 2010-11 campaign with a 17-14 overall record and advanced to the America East championship game for seventh time in nine years.
