BOSTON - After a week-long hiatus, the Boston University women's basketball team returns to action Wednesday evening, as the Terriers host Vermont at Agganis Arena at 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 and is the first game in a double-header with the BU men's team.
The Terriers (15-6, 8-0) sit atop the America East standings thanks to an eight-game win streak that dates back to their first conference game of the season on Jan. 2. BU has not lost since a New Year's Eve contest at St. John's. The winning streak is the longest by an America East team this season and is tied for the 18th-longest winning streak in Division I as of January 30. It is the Terrier's longest winning-streak since rattling off 10 straight victories to begin America East play last season. BU's overall win-loss percentage (71.4) ranks 64th in the nation
BU and Vermont faced off earlier this season, as the Terriers held off a second-half rally by the Catamounts and went on to record a61-60 victory in their first America East game of the season on Jan. 4, at Patrick Gymnasium in Burlington, Vt. Classmate Chantell Alford added 13 points and three rebounds. Sophomore Rashidat Agboola recorded her third double-double of the season, collecting a career-high 17 rebounds to go with 12 points.
Alford leads the team with 12.4 points per game while senior Alex Young is second with 11.2 ppg. Moran chips in 11.1 ppg while senior Caroline Stewart (8.6 rpg) and Agboola (8.2 rpg) lead the team in rebounds.
Vermont arrives in Boston with a 9-13 overall record and a 3-6 mark in conference play. The Catamounts ended a four-game losing skid on Saturday by defeating Stony Brook, 63-36. With leading scorer Lauren Buschmann sidelined with an injury, freshman forward Kayla Burchill and sophomore guard Sam Simononis lead the Catamount's offense, averaging 8.4 and 8.0 points per game, respectively. Junior guard Shanai Heber is UVM's leading rebounder, hauling in 8.0 boards per game. As a team, the Catamounts average 60.0 pointers per game to go with 41.5 rebounds per game.
