
Women's Basketball Hosts Binghamton on Sunday

The Boston University women’s basketball team appears at Case Gym for the first time in 2012 as the Terriers host Binghamton on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012. The Terriers (8-6, 1-0 AE) and Bearcats (8-7, 2-0 AE) will tip-off at 1 p.m.
BU enters Sunday’s contests coming off a 61-60 victory the Terriers’ America East opener at Vermont on Wednesday night. Despite being out-scored by the Catamounts in the second half, 39-24, the Terriers never relinquished the lead and held off UVM’s attempted comeback.
Three players reached double-figures for the Terriers with junior guard Mo Moran leading the way with 19 points. Moran added five rebounds, three assists and two blocks to her stat line. Junior Chantell Alford added 13 points, three rebounds and a pair of steals for the Terriers. Alford currently leads BU with 12.4 points per game while Moran is second on the team with 11.6 points per game.
Sophomore Rashidat Agboola pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds to go with 12 points for her third double-double of the season. It was the second time that she has turned the trick in BU’s last three games. Her 8.6 rebounds per game lead the team.
Binghamton arrives in Boston with an 8-6 overall record and a 2-0 mark in America East play. The Bearcats are coming off a 44-32 win at Stony Brook on Thursday night and have won three of their last four games.
Three players average double-digit scoring performances for the Bearcats, as senior guard Andrea Holmes leads the way with 14.3 points per game. Senior guard Orla O’Reilly is second on the team with 12.9 ppg and senior forward Viive Rebane is just behind her with 12.4 ppg. Junior forward Kara Elofson is the team’s top rebounder with 6.4 boards per game.
The Terriers own a 15-8 advantage in the 10-year-old series with Binghamton. Last year, BU and Binghamton split in the split in the regular season series, with BU winning at home, 66-60, on Jan. 26, and Binghamton prevailing on its court, 59-53, on Feb. 23. The teams last squared off in the 2011 America East Semifinals and the Terriers used a 59-44 triumph to advance to the tournament championship game.
BU remains at home for its next game, as the Terriers welcome Maine to Case Gym on Wednesday, Jan. 11. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
