
Women's Basketball Welcomes Maine to Case Gym on Wednesday

The Boston University women's basketball team will look to remain undefeated at home as BU hosts Maine on Wednesday, Jan. 11. The Terriers (9-6, 2-0 AE) and the Black Bears (3-12, 0-2 AE) will tip-off at 7 p.m.
With a 60-48 win over Binghamton on Sunday, the Terriers moved to 5-0 when playing on their home court. Three players scored in double-digits against the Bear Cats with junior Mo Moran leading the way with 13 points and five assists. Classmate Chantell Alford netted 12 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 eight from the free throw line, while adding six rebounds, two blocks and a pair of steals. Sophomore Rashidat Agboola also added 12 points to go with eight rebounds. Senior Caroline Stewart nearly had a double-double with a team-best 10 rebounds and nine points.
Alford currently leads the Terriers with 12.4 points per game while Moran is second on the team with 11.7 ppg. Agboola and Stewart lead BU with 8.5 rebounds apiece.
Maine arrives in Boston with a 3-12 overall record and still in search of its first win in conference play (0-2 AE). The Black Bears have dropped their last nine games, Maine's last victory was a 73-37 defeat of the Maine Maritime Academy on Nov. 29. In their last game, Maine dropped a 75-55 decision to UMBC on Jan. 7. Head coach Richard Barron is in his first season at Maine after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach at North Carolina State.
Senior Brittany Williams is Maine's leading scorer with 8.3 points per game while sophomore guard Ashleigh Roberts is second on the team with 7.5 ppg. Senior forward Samantha Wheeler and junior guard Shareka Maner are the top rebounders with 5.0 boards per game apiece. As a team, Maine leads the America East with a .384 field goal percentage and is second in the conference with 38.8 rebounds per game.
Maine leads the all-time series between the teams, owning a 40-28 record dating back to the 1977-78 season. BU has owned the series as of late, as the Terriers have won the last eight of the last nine contests. Last season, BU opened America East play at home against Maine and defeated the Black Bears, 78-40, on Jan. 2, 2011. The Terriers traveled to Maine on Feb. 1, 2011 and went home with a 71-59 victory.
The Terriers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 14, as BU heads to Long Island to visit Stony Brook. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Pritchard Gymnasium.
