The Terriers (18-6, 11-0 AE) sit atop the America East standings thanks to an 11-game win streak that dates back to their first conference game of the season on Jan. 4. BU has not lost since a New Year’s Eve contest at St. John’s. The winning streak is the longest by an America East team this season and is tied for the 11th-longest winning streak in Division I as of Feb. 6. BU’s 11-0 mark in conference play matches the best start for the Terriers in the America East since they went 16-0 in league play during the 2008-09 season.
BU is averaging 65.5 points per game against league opponents, out-scoring their foes by an average of 17.3 points. The Terriers are shooting 40.2 percent from the floor and 39.4 from beyond the arc in their past 10 outings. BU has held America East opponents to 48.3 points per game.
Junior guard Chantell Alford leads the team with 13.3 points per game while classmate Mo Moran is second with 11.0 ppg and senior Alex Young ranks third with 3.5 ppg. Fellow senior Caroline Stewart leads the team with 8.6 rebounds per game while adding 7.3 ppg. Sophomore Rashidat Agboola averages 8.0 rbg to go with 9.5 ppg.
Stony Brook comes to Boston with a 4-21 overall and 1-11 in America East play. The Seawolves have not posted a win since a 54-47 victory at Vermont in their conference opener on Jan. 4. BU and SBU faced off earlier this season, as the Terriers defeated the Seawolves, 69-34, on Saturday, Jan. 14, in Stony Brook, N.Y.
The Seawolves do not have a player that averages a double-digit scoring total, as senior guard Whitney Davis is the leading offensive threat with 8.7 points per game. Junior guard Dani Klupenger and junior forward Jessica Previlon are behind her with 5.8 ppg and 5.6 ppg, respectively, while Previlon is the top rebounder with 5.8 boards per game. As a team, Stony Brook averages 43.9 points per game while shooting 31.5 percent from the floor and 27.2 percent from beyond the arc.
BU will host its annual Alumni Game prior to the Terriers’ clash with the Seawolves. Former student-athletes from the past five decades will return to Case Gym to play and then watch BU battle Stony Brook.
The Terriers return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 15, with a trip to Durham, N.H., to face the New Hampshire Wildcats. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
