
Women's Basketball Battles Binghamton on Saturday Afternoon

BOSTON - The Boston University women’s basketball team takes their nine game winning streak and undefeated record in America East play to Vestal, N.Y., on Saturday afternoon to battle the Binghamton Bearcats. Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m.
This is the second meeting of the season between BU and Binghamton, with the Terriers winning the first match-up, 60-48, on Jan. 8 at Case Gym. BU owns a 16-8 all-time advantage over the Bearcats and the Terriers have won nine of the last 10 meetings.
The Terriers own a perfect 9-0 record in conference play as the only undefeated team in the America East. BU is averaging 65.1 points per game against league opponents, out-scoring their foes by an average of 17.1 points. The Terriers are shooting 40.3 percent from the floor and 38.1 from beyond the arc in their past nine outings. BU has held America East opponents to 48.0 points per game.
Junior Chantell Alford leads the team with 13.1 points per game and is coming off an impressive performance against Vermont on Wednesday night. The guard scored 28 points, including five made three-pointers, to fall just shy of her career-high of 29 points. Classmate Mo Moran and senior Alex Young are second on the team with 11.0 points per game each. Caroline Stewart and Rashidat Agboola are the top rebounders for the Huskies, with 8.5 rpg and 8.1 rpg, respectively.
Binghamton enters Saturday’s game with an 11-12 overall record and a 5-5 mark in America East play. The Bearcats ended a two-game losing skid on Wednesday night with a 55-46 win over Stony Brook. This is the second meeting of the season between BU and Binghamton, as the Terriers claimed a 60-48 victory on Jan. 8, in Case Gym.
The Bearcats have a trio of players averaging double-digits for scoring with senior guard Andrea Holmes leading the team with 13.9 points per game. Senior guard Orla O’Reilly ranks second with 12.2 ppg and senior forward Viive Rebane is third with 10.8 ppg, while leading the team with 8.4 rebounds per game. As a team, the Bearcats average 53.5 points per game while shooting 36.8 percent from the field.
The Terriers face another road trip on Wednesday, Feb. 8, as BU heads to Orono, Maine, to face the Black Bears. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
BU’s next home game against Stony Brook on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. will be the Terriers Play4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness Game. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fun and the Facing Cancer Together Organization.
