
Terriers Face Black Bears Wednesday Night in Maine

The Boston University women’s basketball (17-6, 10-0 AE) team travels to Orono, Maine, on Wednesday, Feb. 8, as the Terriers look to complete the season sweep of the Maine Black Bears (6-17, 3-7 AE). Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Alfond Arena.
The Terriers sit atop the America East standings thanks to a 10-game win streak that dates back to their first conference game of the season on Jan. 4. The winning streak is the longest by an America East team this season and is tied for the 11th-longest winning streak in Division I as of Feb. 6.
BU is averaging 64.8 points per game against league opponents, out-scoring their foes by an average of 16.7 points. The Terriers are shooting 40.5 percent from the floor and 37.8 from beyond the arc in their past 10 outings. BU has held America East opponents to 48.1 points per game.
In their last game, the Terriers posted a 62-49 victory at Binghamton on Saturday. Junior Mo Moran led BU with 19 points while adding six rebounds and four assists en route to being named America East Player of the Game. Sophomore Rashidat Agboola was second on the team, with 14 points while adding seven rebounds and three assists. Junior Chantell Alford added 12 points and six rebounds while senior Caroline Stewart led the team with nine rebounds and matched that with nine points.
Alford, the reigning America East Player of the Week, leads the Terriers with 13.0 points per game while Moran is second on the team with 11.3 ppg. Senior Alex Young averages 10.6 ppg while Stewart and Agboola lead the team in rebounding, with 8.5 and 8.0 rebounds per game, respectively.
Maine enters Wednesday’s game with a 6-17 overall record and a 3-7 mark in the America East. The Black Bears split in their last two games, beating Binghamton at home, 48-47, on Jan. 28, before falling at UMBC, 66-44, on Feb. 4.
Senior Samantha Baranowski is the Black Bears’ leading scorer with 9.3 points per game while classmate Brittany Williams and sophomore Ashleigh Roberts are second on the team with 8.0 ppg. Senior Samantha Wheeler is Maine’s top rebounder with 5.0 boards per game while chipping in 7.3 ppg. As a team, Maine averages 53.4 ppg while shooting 37.9 percent from the field and 28.4 percent from beyond the arc.
Maine leads the all-time series 40-28, but BU has been dominant as of late, as the Terriers have won nine of the last 10 contests, including a 75-34 victory at Case Gym on Jan. 11. BU will return to Case Gym on Saturday, Feb. 11, to host Stony Brook. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. Saturday’s game will be BU’s Play4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
