CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After posting a 3-1 record in singles action, Boston University men's tennis freshman Emilio Teran has been named America East Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The award marks the first for the Terriers since junior Josh Friedman earned one on April 27, 2011.
A native of Miami, Fla., Teran opened the Spring Break trip to California with a loss to Loyola Marymount but rebounded with three consecutive victories. He started with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 against Fairleigh Dickinson and then dropped just three games in a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Western Illinois' Andrew Yopp in the No. 4 slot.
In the final match of the week, he earned the Terriers' lone point against Gonzaga with a 6-7(4), 6-1, 10-1 victory at No. 4.
BU will next visit Quinnipiac on Thursday, March 22, at 3 p.m.
