WEST POINT, N.Y. - Competing in its final match of the regular season, the Boston University men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at Army on Saturday afternoon. Capturing five of the six singles points after losing two of the three doubles matches, the Black Knights improve to 14-11, while the Terriers fall to 5-13.
After winning the doubles point and earning a singles point through freshman Emilio Teran's efforts, the Terriers suffered bad luck when junior Josh Friedman had to retire from the No. 1 singles match due to injury after winning the first set.
BU rallied from a set down in two other matches to go to a third, but Army won both of them to hold on for the victory.
Teran teamed with sophomore Jesse Frieder for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles and then pulled out a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 4 singles.
Senior Michael Kopelman won his doubles match in the No. 1 slot with Fredman at 8-6 before falling at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. Senior Regis Chang lost the other three-set singles match at No. 5 in a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 decision.
Boston University will next head into the America East Championships, which will begin on Friday (April 27) at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. Time of the first match and the opponent have yet to be determined.
