
Men's Tennis Claims 7-0 Sweep against Holy Cross

BOSTON - Joining the Patriot League on July 1, the Boston University men's tennis team earned a 7-0 victory against current member Holy Cross on Tuesday afternoon at the Track & Tennis Center. With their fourth sweep of the season, the Terriers improve to 6-3, while the Crusaders drop to 0-7.
BU won all three doubles matches for the first point and then captured all six singles points with five victories occurring in straight sets.
Senior Alex Hallenbeck and freshman Eric Miller blanked their opponents at No. 4 and 5, respectively, to lead the Terriers. Playing in the top spot for the first time this season, junior Jesse Frieder dropped just two games in a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
Sophomore Emilio Teran (#2) and senior Michael Kopelman (#3) lost a combined nine games to win two more points for BU. Freshman Brandon Phan rallied from a set down at No. 6 to earn a 4-6, 6-1, 10-4 victory and complete the sweep.
Earlier in doubles, senior Josh Friedman and sophomore Chanon Varapongsittikul teamed together for an 8-5 victory at No. 1. Kopelman and freshman Stefan Lemire swept their No. 2 counterparts, 8-0, while Hallenbeck and senior Marcus Vanberkel claimed an 8-2 win at No. 3.
The Terriers will next enter a five-match road trip, starting with a visit to Brown on Saturday, March 30, at 4 p.m.
