LOWELL, Mass. – Former Boston University women’s basketball player Kerry Cashman (’11) has joined the coaching staff at UMass Lowell, as the River Hawks enter their first season as a Division I program.
UMass Lowell will be the third America East institution Cashman will be affiliated with, as she played at BU from 2007-11, while the Terriers were a member of the conference. She also spent last season at the University of New Hampshire, which is a current member of the league.
“I’m very excited to join the coaching staff at UMass Lowell, and I feel very lucky to be able to continue to coach in the conference that I played in,” said Cashman. “The America East feels like home. It's a unique time for the university as we make the transition up to Division I and I look forward to growing and becoming successful with this program.”
"Kerry has tremendous energy and passion for the game,” said BU women’s basketball head coach Kelly Greenberg. “Her tireless work ethic and America East background will truly be beneficial for Coach Behn and UMass Lowell."
As the Director of Women’s Basketball operations at UNH for the 2012-13 season, Cashman was responsible for team travel, film exchange, continued development of the alumni and friends of the program and other administrative duties along with serving as the community service and life skills liaison for the team.
Prior to working at UNH, the Newfields, N.H., native spent a season as the assistant coach at Lesley University, where she was responsible for the creation and execution of practice plans while working closely with the post players.
The 2011 BU graduate appeared in 117 games during her four-year career with the Terriers and helped the team to a pair of Women’s National Invitation Tournaments (WNIT) in 2009 and 2010, along with the America East regular-season title in 2009.
Cashman finished her career with 466 points and 496 rebounds while tallying 97 blocks. She had a standout senior season in which she averaged 7.5 ppg, 8.7 rpg and 1.4 bpg while starting all 31 games. She was named the 2011 America East All-Conference Third Team.
