PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Boston University men's tennis team opened its season this past weekend at the three-day Brown Invitational with five players collecting at least two singles wins apiece. Teams competing in the tournament included the host Bears, Bryant, Colgate, UConn, Marist, Merrimack and Tufts.
Freshman Jay Leelavanich led the Terriers by capturing the Aqua Draw title with wins over opponents from Tufts, Marist and Merrimack. In the title match, he swept past Merrimack's Nick Majewski, 6-1, 6-4.
Senior Chanon Varapongsittikul had a strong performance in the top draw of the tournament by rebounding from the semifinal defeat with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Brown's Sam Fife for a third-place result.
Sophomore Stefan Lemire, sophomore Eric Miller and freshman Lucas Bombonatti also earned two wins each in their respective draw.
The Terriers will return to action with their first dual match of the season against Connecticut on Sunday, Sept. 22. The contest will take place at the Longwood Cricket Club in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
