Terriers Continue Home Slate at John Thomas Terrier Invitational

BOSTON – Highlighted by eight top-10 finishes, the Boston University women’s track & field team competed in the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Friday night at the Track and Tennis Center.
Once again, elite runners flocked to the TTC in search of new records. Mary Cain of the Nike Oregon Project was one one-hundredth of a second off the world junior record in the mile with a time of 4:24.11. Fellow Oregon Project member Jordan Hasay placed third in that race with a time of 4:28.37.
Senior Rosa Moriello continued her indoor campaign with a second-place performance in the 5,000m run. Her time of 16:25.53 is a personal best. Sophomore Michelle Sumner finished ninth in that event with a career-best time of 17:06.24.
Junior Gemma Acheampong placed sixth in the finals of the 60m dash with a time of 7.67 seconds. Senior Carolyn Maynard was eighth in the 400m dash with a personal-best mark of 55.73 seconds while senior Hannah Wiley (57.08) and freshman Djenne Parris (57.17) each set personal bests in that event. Sophomore Christy Wood (24.68) was 10th in the 200m dash while Acheampong (24.93) placed 16th. In the 4x400m relay, the team of Maynard, Parris, Wiley and freshman Toria Levy finished eighth with a time of 3:51.11. Senior Nikki Long was 17th in the mile with a mark of 4:54.78.
Sophomore Jade Paul placed seventh in the 500m dash with a time of 1:14.62 while senior Janelle Jorgensen finished 15th in the 800m run with a personal-best time of 2:14.39. Freshman Ally Saccone narrowly missed out on qualifying for the finals of the 60m hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.94 seconds. Classmate Fiona Doolan also had a personal best, as she had a time of 3:00.42 in the 1,000m run.
In the field events, Senior Sarah Dillard had a toss of 15.31 meters to place ninth in the weight throw. She also finished 15th in the shot put (12.06m). Freshmen Natalie Grabowski (3.05m) and Sarah Kert (2.75m) each competed in the pole vault while sophomore Alexandra Fox (1.50m) took part in the high jump.
BU will be back in action on Feb. 1 with athletes competing at the Boston Indoor Games, Rhode Island Invitational and Tufts Invitational.
