Moriello to Compete at NCAA Championship
November 20, 2014 | Women's Cross Country
Senior Rosa Moriello of the Boston University women’s cross country team will compete at the 2014 Division I Women’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday afternoon. The race, hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute, Indiana, is scheduled to begin at noon and will be streamed live on NCAA.com.
Moriello is the first Terrier female to qualify for the NCAA Championship since both Erin Lagasse and Andrea Walkonen advanced to the 2008 championship race. She will compete this weekend thanks to her 13th-place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regional on Nov. 14, which secured her at-large berth to Saturday’s event. She earned All-Region honors for the third time in her successful collegiate career thanks to her best finish ever at the NCAA Northeast Regional. Her most recent top performance at that race was a 25th-place finish in last year’s regional.
A native of Naugatuck, Connecticut, Moriello is the back-to-back Patriot League individual champion and has won five of her last eight races dating back to last year. Moriello is a two-time victor this season, having also won the Ted Owen Invitational. She has been honored as a Patriot League Female Runner of the Year and was also a conference runner of the week after her triumph at the Ted Owen Invitational.
Moriello is no stranger to NCAA competition, having competed in the 5,000m run at the 2014 outdoor championships. The last Terrier harrier, male or female, to reach the NCAA Cross Country Championships was Rich Peters in 2012.
