BOSTON – The Boston University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will travel to Annapolis, Md., to compete in the Terriers’ first Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Navy at Lejeune Hall. The four-day meet commences on Wednesday (Feb 19) and will run through Saturday (Feb. 22). The meet will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
The BU women, who captured seven America East championships, including three in the last five years (2009, 2010, 2012) were chosen to finish second in their inaugural Patriot League season based on the preseason coaches’ poll. The BU men were also selected to finish second after claiming four America East titles, most recently in 2012.
On the men’s side, the Terriers will look to dethrone Navy, as the Mids have captured the last 10 PL crowns. Junior Connor Stuewe is primed to be a top performer for BU, as he enters the competition with top five times in both the 100 and 200 backstroke events. Classmate Cole Puchi enters the meet holding top 10 times in the freestyle sprints.
Freshman Austin Dickey currently holds the fourth-fastest time in the 100 breaststroke event while senior Nik Astashinsky also boasts a top-five time in the 400 IM. Sophomore Mun Hon Lee owns the top times for BU in the butterfly events.
Navy is also the favorite to capture the women’s title after the Mids won the league championship in three of the last four years. Sophomore Stephanie Nasson will lead the BU women in the distance events, as she owns top 10 times in the 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyles. Classmates Celia Simpson (200 butterfly) and Karla Ferarra (200 breaststroke) also enter the meet with two of the best times in the conference.
Senior Kendra Cheng will look to lead the Terriers in the backstroke events while freshman Christy Wilde and sophomore Mika Spencer own the fastest times for BU in the freestyle sprints.
After claiming five Patriot League Diver of the Week honors, senior Chelsea Glincman enters both the 1m and 3m events as a top contender.
