CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After placing third at the 2014 Patriot League Championships, 14 members of the Boston University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams have been named to the All-League teams, as announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon.
Seven members of the BU men’s team and seven members of the BU women’s team were honored in the Terriers’ first year as members of the Patriot League.
Individuals who win events at the Patriot League Championships automatically qualify for the All-League First Team while runner-up finishers are guaranteed a second-team spot. Both teams are back-filled by points, meaning a second-team member can move up to the first team if they accumulated enough points during the meet. Only individual points count.
The Terriers’ men’s team placed five swimmers on the men’s All-League First Team including senior Nik Astashinsky, juniors Cole Puchi, Connor Stuewe and Andy Vazquez, and sophomore Mun Hon Lee. Stuewe earned his spot as an event winner (200 backstroke) while the four other Terriers were among the top-15 point scorers at the meet.
Freshman Austin Dickey earned a spot on the All-League Second Team by placing second in the 100 breaststroke while junior Lincoln Kupke earned second team accolades based on points.
Senior Chelsea Glincman and sophomore Stephanie Nasson were both named to the All-League First Team on the women’s side after earning first-place finishes at the meet. Glincman was the 3m diving champion while Nasson, the Women’s Swimmer of the Meet, earned the top spot in the 500 and 1650 freestyles with record-breaking performances.
Sophomore Karla Ferrara (200 breaststroke) and freshman Sarah Hargrave (500 and 1650 freestyle) received All-League Second Team honors for placing second in their events while junior Alexsa Savage, sophomore Celia Simpson and freshman Kalli Roebelen joined the Second Team based on points accumulated.
A total of 76 student-athletes earned All-League laurels, 38 in both genders, with 19 on the first team and 19 on the second team on each side.
