CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Junior Gemma Acheampong and senior Allison Barwise of the Boston University women's track & field team, along with freshman Justin Flynn of the men's track & field team, each earned Patriot League weekly honors, the conference announced on Monday.
Acheampong was named Patriot League Female Track Athlete of the Week after she matched Shelby Walton's school-record time of 11.75 seconds in the 100m dash on Friday at the Florida Relays. It is the top time in the Patriot League this season that was not wind-aided. This is the second such honor for Acheampong in the last three weeks.
Barwise garnered Patriot League Female Field Athlete of the Week honors for the third consecutive week after she maintained her NCAA lead in the high jump. She finished first in a highly-competitive field at the Florida Relays with a mark of 1.85 meters. Two other athletes achieved that height, but Barwise was the only one to make it over the bar on her first attempt.
Flynn was selected as Patriot League Male Rookie of the Week after he took over the Patriot League lead in the 100m dash. His time of 10.55 seconds at the Florida Relays on Friday is over a tenth of a second faster than his previous best time this year. Flynn was also part of the 4x100m relay team that recorded a school-record time of 40.97 seconds on Saturday.
BU will be back in action on April 12 at the George Mason Invitational as well as the George Davis Invitational.
