Terriers Continue Fall Schedule at UConn Invitational

The tournament featured competitors from the host Huskies, Hartford, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Bryant, Bentley and Siena.
Leelavanich rallied from a set down in the quarterfinals of the top flight to beat Quinnipiac's Kei Ezaka, 6-7, 6-2, 10-8. He then quickly dispatched UConn's Chris Toner in straight sets before dropping a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 decision to Quinnipiac's Jonas Kuwert.
Bombonatti competed in the C flight and won his first three contests in straight sets. In the final though, Quinnipiac's Kyle Alper won a tough first set and then cruised to the title, 6-4, 6-1.
Two other sophomores, Mario Sandoval and Miguel Cepeda, also had strong performances in singles action. Sandoval reached the semifinals of the B flight but came up just short in a 14-12 super tiebreaker. Cepeda fell in the first match but bounced back with three straight victories to win the consolation bracket in the D flight.
The Terriers will next compete at the MIT Invitational on Oct. 10-11.
