BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Despite one of the best first-half performances of the year for the Boston University women's basketball team, the Terriers could not pull off a win over the top team in the Patriot League and dropped a 85-64 decision to Lehigh on Saturday afternoon in Stabler Arena.
Sophomore captain Courtney Latham tallied her first career double-double with 10 points and rebounds while classmate Meghan Green contributed a team-high 14 points. Four BU players were in double-figure scoring with Clodagh Scannell contributing 11 points off 3-of-6 shooting from long range and Sarah Hope notching 10 to go with a game-leading five assists.
The Terriers shot 55.6 percent in the first half, their best performance in any half so far this season but Lehigh kept it consistent in both stanzas, shooting 42.9 percent in the first and 48.4 percent in the second to secure the victory.
Turnovers were costly for BU, committing 16 which turned into 22 points toward the Mountain Hawk total. Second-chance points were also a difference maker, with Lehigh's eight offensive boards becoming 15 points.
The Mountain Hawks were led by Lexi Martins, who posted 26 points and 12 rebounds, including five offensive boards.
After a slow start to the game the Terriers turned it into high-gear when Lehigh took an eight-point lead, battling back to tie the game twice. BU started to dominate the post, scoring 22 points in the paint including a 14-point contribution from Green.
The Mountain Hawks upped the tempo in the second half, however, and began to run away with the lead, taking a 13-point lead midway through the final period, an advantage that the Terriers would never erase.
BU returns home for a game with Navy on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. in Case Gym.
