BOSTON - The Boston University men's soccer team erased a pair of one-goal deficits but ultimately came up short in a 3-2 overtime loss to Lehigh on Saturday night at Nickerson Field.

Earning their third straight win, the Mountain Hawks (9-5-1, 3-3-0 PL) netted the golden goal 58 seconds into the first extra session, as Doyle Tuvesson made a long run toward the middle of the box and fired a low shot past a diving redshirt junior goalkeeper Matt Gilbert at the right post. Lehigh was eight minutes away from winning in regulation, but junior Felix De Bona knocked in classmate Mark Wadid's cross inside the near post to force overtime.

With the loss, the Terriers (10-4-1, 4-1-1 PL) saw four streaks come to an end, having previously gone unbeaten in 14 Patriot League regular season games (10-0-4), six home games (5-0-1), four overtime contests (3-0-1) and three meetings against the Mountain Hawks (3-0-0). The conference regular season streak was the longest for BU since the program opened America East play 28-0-1 from 1989-1993.

The first goal by Lehigh came in the 26th minute, but both squads had great opportunities earlier to score. Luchini was just inches wide at 6:16, and freshman Magnus Benediktsson one-timed a cross high over the crossbar with plenty of room to work with under pressure.

Luchini eventually scored his PL leading seventh goal in the 26th minute, following a BU turnover near the Terriers' box. Tuvesson fed the ball to Luchini, who got around Gilbert and fired a hard attempt that was blocked by junior David Asbjornsson for the team save. He collected the rebound and gave Lehigh the 1-0 advantage.

BU scored the equalizer in the 42nd minute after Wadid blocked what would have been a deep pass from a Lehigh defender. Wadid helped start the counter attack that ended with freshman T.J. Butzke sending a cross toward the center from the right side. Sophomore Danny Foen made a run at the pass and was in position for his third straight goal, but a Mountain Hawk headed the ball straight into the back of the net while trying to make a miraculous clear.

The score was tied 1-1 entering halftime with Lehigh holding a slight 7-5 advantage in shots. The Mountain Hawks went up again at 52:13 after a failed BU clear. Alex Greene intercepted a pass near the right corner flag and sent in a pass for a Mark Forrest header and 2-1 lead.

Both keepers made a couple of saves for the next 30 minutes to keep the score the same until the Terriers took advantage of a Lehigh turnover near midfield. Collecting his team-high fifth assist, freshman Magnus Benediktsson sent a through ball up the right sideline to Wadid, who one-touched the ball to De Bona for the equalizer.

Lehigh made its third overtime apperance and improved to 2-0-1 on the season following Tuvesson's third goal of the year. Joe Bogan recorded three saves for the victory, while Gilbert earned five stops.

The Mountain Hawks finished with an 18-13 lead in shots and 5-3 advantage in corner kicks to hand the Terriers their first conference loss of the year. Despite the defeat, BU remains atop the PL standings with one point more than Colgate (4-2-0 PL).

With three games remaining, the Terriers will next host Holy Cross in the first Turnpike Trophy matchup between the two conference rivals on Wednesday (Oct. 28) at 7 p.m.

Prior to the contest, they will honor seniors Richie Robinson, Lucas McBride, Kelvin Naito, Jeroen Blugh along with Gilbert.
